Our Mission

Supporting the cognitive, social, and technological infrastructure to address complex problems through TIES across disciplines and communities.

The Institute’s mission is to accelerate how the world generates, organizes, and applies knowledge toward the complex, interrelated problems of our time - beginning with health and environment, and their many interconnections.

Complex problems do not respect disciplinary boundaries. Effective response requires bringing together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and the communities most affected - each of whom holds a partial view of the whole. The Institute exists to help make those connections and make them work in practice.

How we work

A small organization with a wide network.

The Institute operates as a small organization by design. Our role is to connect, synthesize, and support - not to duplicate the work already being done across the many disciplines, institutions, and communities engaged with these problems.

We do that through our flagship ClimateTIES collaborative platform, and through growing additional programs within our HealthTIES and EarthTIES initiatives. We’ll grow as our reach grows.
